Every year, World Hepatitis Day is commemorated to promote awareness of viral hepatitis, a liver inflammation that can lead to severe liver disease and, in some circumstances, cancer. The theme for this year emphasizes the importance of making the necessary measures to eliminate hepatitis as a public health hazard by 2030. This is because:
•People who are unaware they have hepatitis can’t wait for testing
•People who have been diagnosed with hepatitis can’t wait for life-saving treatments.
•Hepatitis patients eagerly await the end of stigma and discrimination.
•Pregnant women can’t wait to be screened for hepatitis
•Newborns can’t wait for their first dose of immunization.
•Today, we urge people all over the world to take action and increase hepatitis awareness because Hepatitis Can’t Wait.
•With so many people dying from hepatitis-related illnesses, and much more in the current COVID-19 crisis, it’s clear that more needs to be done.
