This is a day to increase global awareness about the need for safe blood and blood products transfusion, as well as the importance of unpaid blood donors to the health care system. All countries require regular, unpaid blood donors to ensure that everyone who needs blood transfusion has access to safe blood.
As a result, we applaud blood transfusion services, blood donor organizations, and other non-governmental organizations for promoting worldwide, national, and local campaigns in order to enhance and extend their voluntary blood donation programs.
The day also serves as a call to action for governments and other health-care organizations to provide appropriate resources for blood collection and storage, as well as access to blood transfusions for individuals who are in need. Donate blood and save a life.
