This day is marked every year with the objective of increasing public awareness and understanding of sickle cell disease, as well as tackling the obstacles that patients, their families, and carers face. This year's awareness campaign is called "Shine the Light," and it represents worldwide meetings to light buildings in red in the hopes of finding a universal cure for the disease.
Furthermore, awareness campaigns must be performed and intensified across the country, particularly in high-risk states, to raise public understanding about the disease, the necessity of early diagnosis, and treatment choices.
