The goal of World Glaucoma Day is to increase awareness of this condition and aid people in protecting their vision. When glaucoma first affects the optic nerve, it results in a gradual loss of peripheral vision. If it is not caught early and treated properly, it may progress to a more serious vision loss that also involves central vision. The goal of this year's theme is to reduce the incidence of blindness brought on by this illness by promoting frequent eye exams that include checking the optic nerve and eye pressure.
On a global level, we enlighten, educate, and inspire community action. To prevent vision impairment, early glaucoma detection and treatment are a focus. The majority of individuals do not realise they have this illness until irreversible blindness has set in. By calling attention to glaucoma as a rising public health concern, the public is encouraged to lobby for governments to establish the required eye healthcare systems in areas where people lack easy access to care.
This will bring together a global group of committed patients, caregivers, members of the public, and other stakeholders to promote knowledge and take action in the diagnosis and management of glaucoma. Diagnosis and treatment are now less daunting thanks to recent improvements in medicine and surgery. The primary objective of sight preservation is achievable through early diagnosis through routine eye health exams.
