Asthma is a common long-term condition which affects the lungs. It can be seen in both children and adults. This happens when the body reacts adversely to an inhaled foreign substance, which causes the airways to narrow due to swelling of the surrounding tissue. This results in symptoms like coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Asthma risk is also thought to be increased by exposure to a variety of allergens and irritants, including air pollution, household dust, mould, and chemical exposure at work. Reduced exposure to asthma triggers is necessary for someone living with asthma to better manage the condition and prevent attacks.
The goal of this day is to raise awareness of asthma and advocate for quality care for people with asthma worldwide. A normal, healthy life is possible for those with asthma once the proper management is commenced. The Asthma Care for All campaign encourages the creation and adoption of efficient management plans in all nations. It promotes expanding access to and availability of high-quality medical care to reduce the high number of asthma-related hospitalizations and deaths that are brought on by insufficient access to asthma care.
